If you visit Dolly’s Bookstore you will immediately see why they refer to themselves as “the independent staple of the historic Park City Main Street Community- connecting customers with cats & books since 1972”. The store glows with a collection of thousands of books and games. Aside from a multitude of written art, the friendly bookstore staff awaits to outpour the stories of multiple cats who’s names have remained dolly’s throughout many decades.
Now, 44 years later Dolly’s has set a new standard on main street once again by remaining an early adopter to switch to LED energy efficient lighting. With this 118 bulb lighting renovation, Dolly’s bookstore has reduced the amount of CO2 in town by 10 tons per year! Aside from the impact this project made on the environment, it has made an even bigger impact in the store’s appearance, electric bill, and maintenance protocols. In the pictures below you can see the difference at a glance. The lighting is evenly distributed throughout the space allowing merchandise in previously dark corners to stand out.
Financially, this project made a lot of sense with a ROI (Return on investment) of only 12 months with the help of Rocky Mountain Power’s financial incentive program. Aside from this incentive which ranges to cover up to 60% of costs, Dolly’s will experience a reduction in the power bill of over 70%.
“On my way out of the store after helping with installation, one of the nice staff members asked me what they should do with the stock of light bulbs they had stored away. Many stores on Main Street are obligated to change their incandescent light bulbs up to 3 per day as they burn out after a short period of time. Dolly’s Bookstore will not be needing extra bulbs around as these energy efficient LED light bulbs are guaranteed to last 5 years! This is a big deal for businesses who need to keep their lights on for 10-14 hours a day/night. The reduction in maintenance cost alone makes this switch worth it”, Said Juliana Duran from SuperGreen Solutions.
